Leigh School – Hive Legacy and Letters to the Experts are open below.

Log what a class or group recorded at the hive or in the garden.
For partner schools · optional add-on
Hive Legacy is not part of the core programme – it is an additional add-on, available on request. Where site, safety and school approvals allow, the school keeps a managed hive, a beekeeper mentor and a seasonal learning calendar – with honey as a possible fundraising product, proceeds reinvested into the next resilience action the students choose.

Letters to the experts
Choose who to write to. Each of them will read your letter and write back to your class.
Dr Ngaire
Native bees
Dr Ngaire Hart (Ngāti Wai), our Chief Pollinator and New Zealand's leading expert on native bees (Ngāro Huruhuru). Ask what they eat, where they nest, and how we can help them.
Grass
Honeybees
Ask about the hive, the queen, how bees make honey and how a colony stays healthy.
Kelly
Climate
Kelly Hamilton, Bee Resilient co-founder. Ask about weather, climate change, and what our school and community can do to be ready.
For Leigh School students, sent with your teacher. First names only, please – a teacher should read each letter before it is sent.
Our first education hub
Leigh School is a long-standing Enviroschool with a strong history of learning through real-world experience, from restoring local environments to exploring the coast on its doorstep. Bee Resilient builds on that foundation.
Students are observing pollinators, creating habitats and asking bigger questions about resilience, biodiversity and the future of their community. Leigh is where we develop, test and refine the programme before it goes to more schools.
“Through Bee Resilient, the tamariki of Leigh School are learning that resilience grows through action.”Enviroschools, October 2026

Phase 2
Tell us about your school and we'll be in touch about bringing hives, lessons and the Bee Resilient team to your students as Phase 2 rolls out, training your own staff to facilitate the programme themselves – or about visiting the resilience lab at BeeTopia NZ Limited, where classes can see the hive, the honey shed and the programme up close.

Be a resilience influencer
Bees are the most resilient creatures we know, and children learn resilience best from other people's real stories. Film one on your phone and we will share the best of them on the Bee Resilient Instagram and in the classroom.

Phone held upright, 15 to 60 seconds. Good light, no script. Your face and your voice are the whole thing.

A time something was hard and you kept going. Not advice, not a lecture – just what happened and what got you through.
